Open Europe Talk: What's up in Hungary

Brüssel und Budapest haben derzeit kein einfaches Verhältnis zueinander. Themen wie Migration, die Unterstützung der Ukraine, aber auch die Meinungsfreiheit bestimmen die Agenda. Die europäische Integration und ihre Weiterentwicklung werden auf die Probe gestellt. Gleichzeitig gibt es in Ungarn eine lebendige Zivilgesellschaft und junge Stimmen, die ihr Land nach ihren jeweiligen Vorstellungen gestalten wollen.

Im nächsten Open Europe Talk fragen wir: Was bewegt Ungarn aktuell politisch und gesellschaftlich? Welche Perspektiven haben Demokratie und Rechtsstaatlichkeit? Und wie geht es weiter mit der Rolle Ungarns in der EU?

Unsere Gesprächspartner sind Gábor Reisz und Borbála Teodóra Nagy, zwei lokale Nachwuchskoordinatoren von socioMovens, die Einblicke aus erster Hand mitbringen. Gemeinsam werfen wir einen Blick hinter die Fassade populistischer Rhetorik, diskutieren den innergesellschaftlichen Wandel – und die Frage, ob ein anderes Ungarn möglich ist. Der Austausch findet in englischer Sprache statt.

Der Open Europe Talk bietet Raum für offene Diskussionen zu aktuellen europäischen Themen – kritisch, informativ und im direkten Austausch mit Partner:innen vor Ort. Die Kommende Dortmund engagiert sich seit über 20 Jahren engagiert sich in Mittel- und Osteuropa für europäische Bildungs- und Dialogarbeit. Mit dem neuen, einstündigen Format möchten wir eine Plattform schaffen, um direkt mit Menschen aus den jeweiligen Ländern ins Gespräch zu kommen. Die Online-Reihe wird in Kooperation mit der Stiftung socioMovens. Giving Europe a Soul durchgeführt.

Brussels and Budapest do not have an easy relationship these days. Topics like migration, the support of Ukraine but also the freedom of speach shape the agenda. European integration and its durability are put to the test. At the same time, Hungary whitnesses a vibrant civil society and young voices who want to shape their country after their respective ideas.

In the next Open Europe Talk, we ask: What is currently moving Hungary politically and socially? What are the prospects for democracy and the rule of law? And what is the future of Hungary's role in the EU?

Our dialogue partners are Borbála Teodóra Nagy and Gábor Reisz, young socioMovens cooridnators who are willing to share first-hand insights. Together we will take a look behind the façade of populist rhetoric, discuss the changes within society - and the question of whether a different Hungary is possible.

The Open Europe Talk offers space for open discussions on current European topics - critical, informative and in direct dialogue with local partners. Kommende Dortmund has been involved in European education and dialogue work in Central and Eastern Europe for over 20 years. With the new, one-hour format, we want to create a platform for direct dialogue with people from the respective countries. The online series is organised in cooperation with the foundation "socioMovens. Giving Europe a Soul".
